Breakfast was leftovers from Saba (every bit as delicious as the night before). We headed to Mardi Gras World, which was highly enjoyable. Tourist-y and artsy and fascinating. Really enjoyed seeing the props, floats, process and how they repurposed materials (one figure started out as Ronald Regan and morphed into Aladdin).

We left the museum(ish) thinking we wanted to go to Mardi Gras and see a parade or two; fast forward to Sunday afternoon in the French Quarter and we realized that an apartment with a private balcony is the only way Mardi Gras could be pleasant (and even that night be too close to the crowds drinking excessively).

The warehouse is on the Mississippi River – churning and full of sediment.

For lunch, we headed to mid-city, to Clesi’s, for crawfish (since it was in-season) with table-service. Excellent. The day got windier (our sun umbrella whipped around us) but it was so fun to sit outside, piecemeal our 3lbs of perfectly spiced crawfish and sip local strawberry beer.

For dessert, we walked a few blocks to Angelo Brocato for gelato (and we split a very good cannoli). A charming old-school Italian sweet shop, recommended by the staff at Clesi’s and by my dad’s friend (who had sent me an annotated copy of the Gambit’s spring restaurant issue- so thoughtful).

After a bit of relaxing, we had dinner at the bar at Saffron and found the super helpful bartender from Coquette, who was filling in at Saffron. Small world, but it was great to be able to thank him for his suggestions and extraordinary culinary guidance.
